Newtown's PTA Reflections Program Winners Recognized At Schools
The Connecticut PTA recently announced the names of the state winners for the annual student Reflections program. An awards ceremony is scheduled for May 16, following the announcement of the competition's national winners.The Newtown Bee.
With the announcement of the state winners, Newtown schools also recognized its award winners at both the school and state levels. All of the first place winners in the Reflections program at school levels were submitted for the state level of the program. First place winners at the state level will have their works entered into the national level of the competition. The theme for the 2017-18 school year's PTA art competition was "Within Reach."

Middle Gate Elementary School held an awards ceremony in its cafeteria on March 21 to recognize students who won awards at the school and at the state level. Middle Gate students who were recognized at the school on March 21 were Max Lickstein, who earned second place in Visual Arts Primary Division; Emmalynn Raslan, first place in the Dance Choreography Primary Division, first place in the Literature Primary Division, second place in the Photography Primary Division, second place in the Film Primary Division, and third place in the Visual Arts Primary Division.
Evan Renak, first place in the Film Primary Division and third Place Photography Primary Division; Jace Angelovic, first place in the Visual Arts Primary Division; Harrison Dunn, who submitted in the Visual Arts Primary Division; Katherine Dunn, third place in the Visual Arts Primary Division; Mason Garthwait, second place in the Visual Arts Primary Division; Sophie Oldi, who submitted in the Visual Arts Primary Division; Riley Reppenhagen, first place in the Photography Primary Division; Mallory Angelovic, first place in the Literature Intermediate Division; Victoria Abukhovich, third place in the Literature Intermediate Division.
Atley Ammerman, second place in the Visual Arts Intermediate Division; Charlotte Comstock, who submitted for the Visual Arts Intermediate Division; Ella Schuster, third place for the Visual Arts Intermediate Division; Katherine Allen, first place in the Visual Arts Intermediate Division; Kieran Garrity, third place in the Literature Intermediate Division and first place in the Photography Intermediate Division; Nathaniel Hoag, second place in the Literature Intermediate Division and second place in the Photography Intermediate Division; and Rachel Kraus, who submitted for the Visual Arts Intermediate Division.
Middle Gate students who earned awards at the state level were Emmalynn Raslan, fourth place in her division for Literature; Evan Renak, first place in his division for Film; and Riley Reppenhagen, first place in her division in Photography.
Reed Intermediate School has a number of students earn awards at the state level: Ella Renak, first place in the Dance Intermediate Division; Maya Raslan, first place in the Film Intermediate Division, first place in the Photography Intermediate Division, and third place in the Visual Arts Intermediate Division; Mackenzie Roszman, second place in the Dance Middle School Division; and Sadie Baimel, third place in the Literature Intermediate Division.
One Newtown Middle School student earned awards at the state level of the program after first being recognized among the school winners earlier in the school year. Alison Powers earned third place in both the Literature and Photography Middle School Divisions.
Three Newtown High School students earned state awards in the contest: Alexandra Toth, first place in the Film High School Division, Karl Miller, first place in the Literature High School Division, and Thomas Jensen, first place in the Music Composition High School Division, as announced by the state PTA.
