Building on a National Association of Realtors strategic plan, calling for local boards to invest in their communities, the Newtown Board of Realtors will host “Donation Day at the Pound.”

“We are a town of dog lovers,” said Barbara Frey, president of the Newtown Board of Realtors. “We wanted to do a big food pantry drive, but our state legislators were already doing a big campaign. So we thought, why not do something for our dog pound?” Ms Frey said.

Donation boxes are set up at each of the real estate offices in town, as well as at Your Healthy Pet, 224 South Main Street; Newtown Municipal Center, 3 Primrose Street within Fairfield Hills; and Monroe Starbucks, 525 Main Street, to collect items needed by the pound.

Requested items for dogs include Dave’s chicken and rice canned food, Fromm dry dog food, treats, pig ears, knuckle bones, soft, chewy chicken treats, chicken tender treats, chew sticks, and bully sticks.

The public is being asked to not donate items made of rawhide.

Donations of  wet canned cat food, cat litter, and cat toys would be appreciated.

Other items needed at the pound include laundry detergent, paper towels, contractor plastic bags, dishwashing liquid, blankets, and towels.

On Saturday, April 25, the local realtors invite anyone who has not been able to stop by a real estate office to donate, to join them for Donation Day at the Pound, the from 10 am to 2 pm. The Brian J. Silverlieb Animal Care and Control Center is located on Old Farm Road, off of Trades Lane, beyond the Horse Guard. All donations will be accepted during those hours.

The Newtown Board of Realtors invite the public to donate to support animals at the pound, either by leaving items at any of the local realtor’s offices, or by visiting Donation Day at the Pound, April 25, from 10 am to 2 pm. From left are Newtown realtors Eileen Brooks, Marcia Izzo, Marcy Clair, Robert Morey, Joanne Kenny, and Barbara Frey.
