Teen Volunteers Needed For Flanders Programs

WOODBURY — Flanders Nature Center & Land Trust is recruiting young people as volunteers to assist the teaching staff during summer programs for children, which run from June 26 through August 18.  Sessions are held in the morning and afternoon and each session meets for five consecutive weekdays.

Volunteers must be at least 12 years old and scheduling is flexible. An orientation party and training in first-aid and other skills will be held for all volunteers.

Teen volunteers will be actively engaged in the summer programs, which will include exploring wildlife and the environment on guided hikes, learning about farm animals and practices, and participating in crafts and games that relate to nature. According to Cindy Falcetti, program director of the Flanders Summer Series, teen volunteers serve as positive role models for small groups of children ages 3 to 10 years old.

To apply as a summer volunteer, call Flanders at 203-263-3711, or personally visit the Flanders Welcome Center located at the intersection of Flanders and Church Hill Roads in Woodbury.

Flanders Nature Center and Land Trust is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing educational programs and to conducting land preservation and stewardship efforts. Flanders 200-acre main campus includes a working farm with barn animals, ponds, streams, woodlands, and garden spaces.
