Sandy Hook School Holds Tenth Annual Jump For Heart

Sandy Hook Elementary School held its tenth annual Jump Rope For Heart on March 21 and 22. Jump Rope For Heart helps to promote physical activity for elementary school children while showing them how they may contribute to their community’s welfare. The children obtain sponsors and jump rope to raise money to fight heart disease.

The two-day “jump fest” involved more than 160 third and fourth graders participating in long rope, double Dutch, individual skills, lazy cowboy, and partner skills.

Parent volunteers turned ropes, took pictures, and served refreshments. Sharon Bean, the regional representative for the American Heart Association, sponsors of the event, thanked the children for their participation and presented the school with a 2005-2006 Jump For Heart banner.

Ms Bean, through the American Heart Association, provided each child at the event with a free ticket voucher to be used at an upcoming Bridgeport Sound Tiger game.

The highlight of the event was the appearance of the Bridgeport Sound Tiger mascot Storm and the Bluefish mascot Bee-Bee.
