Post-Earth Day Holcombe Hill Trail Day Cleanup
Post-Earth Day Holcombe Hill Trail Day Cleanup
In recognition of Earth Day, Â Newtown Forest Association (NFA) members invite residents to join the volunteer, not-for-profit board of directors for a trail day cleanup at the Holcombe Hill Wildlife Preserve, 55 Great Hill Road, on Saturday, April 29.
Volunteers should meet in the parking area between 9:30 and 10 am. Volunteers will be grouped, and teams will receive a tour through the trail demonstration area for training and then work on assigned sections.
Bottled water will be available for the volunteers. Basic first aid items will also be provided. Bring your own tools such as pruning clippers, lop shears, bow saws, and rakes. No power tools are necessary. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
This workday will clear the overhanging privet and limbs from the Blue Trail that was created several years ago in connection with an Eagle Scout project by a local resident.Â
On June 3, the NFA will promote National Trails Day and is sponsoring a hike at 10 am, which will coincide with other hikes sponsored by similar organizations across the country.
For more information call 270-3650. Scout leaders and those in a group of more than four should RSVP in advance by either leaving a voicemail or email at NFATreasurer@yahoo.com.
