At first they were just a bunch of guys (and some girls) wearing cool uniforms and playing a style of ball that died out more than 120 years ago.
Now they have become their own brand.
The Newtown Sandy Hooks vintage base ball team is unveiling this year four flavors of vintage style soda pop and three blends of coffee â all in an effort to help finance club (equipment, umpires and travel).
The Hooks have partnered with Avery Beverages in New Britain, which has been in business since 1904, and together they will be offering orange, root beer, cream and lime flavors of soda pop along with rich decaf (Hurlerâs Choice), regular roast (Strikerâs Pitch) and French roast (Morning Crank) blends of coffee.
The soda and coffee will be available at all of the Hooksâ home games (for a current schedule visit vbbnewtown.com).
The ultimate goal for the club will be to get the soda and coffee placed in the shops and stores of local retailers with the hope that the community will see it as a fun way to support Newtownâs newest, old-time sports team.

If the initial soda flavors and coffee blends sell well, additional flavors of both will be added. The Hooks are also planning on a line of merchandise including baseball caps, t-shirts, sweatshirts, base ball cards (similar to those found in old tobacco boxes) and old style pennants on wooden sticks.
