On Saturday, April 30, Newtown Police Department and other law enforcement agencies nationwide will partner with the DEA for the 22nd Drug Take Back Day.

Residents are invited to visit Newtown Police Department, at 191 South Main Street, between 10 am and 2 pm, when they can drop off expired, unwanted, and unused prescription medications.

Tablets, capsules, patches, and other solid forms of prescription drugs will all be accepted for proper disposal.

The event will not accept liquids, including intravenous solutions; syringes and other sharps; or illegal drugs.

Drug Take Back Days are conducted twice annually, in April and October.

Newtown Police Department does not have a Drug Drop Box in its lobby.

Since July 2018, pharmacies in Connecticut have been authorized by the DEA to dispose of prescription medications. Some pharmacies in the state have installed drug drop boxes. There are currently none in Newtown, but local pharmacies will assist customers with the safe disposal of medications.

The DEA and CDC also have information concerning the safe disposal of medications in the trash at home. Visit DEAtakeback.com for additional information.

Newtown Police Department will again partner with the DEA for the 22nd Drug Take Back Day later this month.
