Anthony S. Stachelczyk, 85, of Newtown died April 9 at Maplewood at Newtown, with his loving family by his side. He was the devoted husband of Helen (Orzech) Stachelczyk. He was born in Derby, February 1, 1931, son of the late Antoinette (Piwowarski) and Anthony L. Stachelczyk, and resided most of his life in Ansonia and Oxford.

He was a 1948 graduate of Shelton High School and studied art at Yale-Norfolk Art School, Whitney School of Art, and Worcester Museum of Art School where he was also an instructor. He served with the US Army during Korea.

Mr Stachelczyk was an electrical inspector at Sikorsky Aircraft for many years until his retirement. He owned a graphic art business in which he designed many logos for local businesses and was an artist who specialized in portraits and landscapes, which he enjoyed sharing at art shows. Some of his early work included the creation of set designs for the Army Theatre and Southbury Playhouse. He was also a member of the Polish Falcons.

Mr Stachelczyk was the beloved father and father-in-law of David Stachelczyk and his wife Sahn, and Susan Baktis and her husband Gregory, and the loving grandfather of Lily and Chloe Stachelczyk, and Erik, Adam, and Emily Baktis. Several nieces and nephews also survive Mr Stachelczyk. A brother, Edwin Stachelczyk, predeceased him.

Friends may call on Saturday, April 16, from 8:30 to 10 am, at the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth Street, Derby. His funeral procession will follow at 10:15 am for his Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am, at St Thomas the Apostle Church in Oxford. His burial will be at St Michael Cemetery in Derby.

The family requests that memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 174, 43 Oxford Road, Oxford CT 06478.
