Woodruffs To Speak At

Quinnipiac University, Ridgefield Playhouse

HAMDEN — Bob Woodruff, the former ABC World News Tonight co-anchor who was nearly killed by a roadside bomb while reporting in Iraq last year, and his wife, Lee, will discuss their life-changing experience and sign their recently released book at 7 pm Monday, April 16, in Alumni Hall at Quinnipiac University. This event, part of the dean of the School of Communications Distinguished Visitor Series, is free and open to the public.

The couple will also be appearing at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Tuesday, April 24, at 7 pm. ABC News Weekend anchor Kate Snow will moderate the Ridgefield appearance. Tickets for the Ridgefield appearance are $25.

The Woodruffs co-wrote In an Instant, a memoir chronicling the former anchor’s injuries in Iraq and how their family persevered through a time of trauma and uncertainty. The Woodruff family established The Bob Woodruff Family Fund for Traumatic Brain Injury (BWFF) to raise money to assist members of the military with cognitive rehabilitation and care following a traumatic brain injury suffered in service to their country.

Mr Woodruff, who recently returned to work at ABC, first joined the network in 1996 and has covered major stories throughout the country and around the world for the network. He was named co-anchor of ABC’s World News Tonight in December 2005. On January 29, 2006, while reporting on US and Iraqi security forces, Mr Woodruff was seriously injured by a roadside bomb that struck his vehicle near Taji, Iraq.

Prior to joining ABC, Mr Woodruff was a reporter for various affiliates in Redding, Calif.; Richmond, Va.; and Phoenix, Ariz. When he joined ABC News in 1996, he was based in the network’s Chicago bureau. He also practiced corporate law and taught law in Beijing. He earned a law degree from the University of Michigan Law School in 1987 and a bachelor of arts degree from Colgate in 1983.

Lee Woodruff operates her own freelance writing and marketing business from home. Previously she worked as a vice president for Porter Novelli in New York and San Francisco and as an account supervisor for a public relations agency and at an American marketing firm in Beijing. She received a bachelor of arts degree from Colgate in 1982. The Woodruffs live in New York with their four children.
