Nurses, Students Invited To Celebrate Nursing Week

WATERBURY — The Greater Waterbury Nursing Consortium, a group advocating the role of nursing within the community, invites Newtown nurses and nursing students to attend “Nurses Lead the Way,” a free event in celebration of National Nursing Week, Wednesday, May 9 from 4 to 6:30 pm at the Naugatuck Valley Community College’s Fine Arts Center Mainstage Theater, 750 Chase Parkway.

“The goal of our group is to serve Waterbury and surrounding communities by focusing on nursing as a profession of first choice,” said Peg Moffitt, co-chair of this year’s event. She stated that the May event, the fifth to be hosted by the consortium, will focus on celebrating the role that holistic nursing plays in patient care.

Highlighting the event will be an interactive program called “Holistic Nursing: Good for Your Patients, Your Practice, and You” presented by Veda Andrus, EdD, RN, MSN, HN-BC, a renowned holistic nurse and vice president for education and program development for the Florence, Mass.-based BirchTree Center for Healthcare Transformation. Dr Andrus will explore the philosophies, theories, and ethics of holistic nursing.

The evening will conclude with the presentation of awards to nurses and nursing students who use their self as a therapeutic tool, care for patients as a whole person, and develop healing relationships with patients and their family.

Light refreshments will be served. Nurses and nursing students must register for this free event by calling 203- 596-8777, faxing 203-596-8793 or via e-mail to langellottic@wcsu.edu by April 26. Indicate your name, phone number, and the number of seats to be reserved.
