NHS Parking Problems
NHS Parking
Problems
To the Editor:
Thank you to Janis Solheim for her letter regarding the parking situation at NHS. I could not agree more with the heading âAn Accident Waiting to Happen.â
I was unaware of the parking situation at NHS because, until recently, the parking sticker requirement was not enforced. My son has parked in the NHS lot since September with no sticker and no consequences.
Last week, as per the sudden enforcement procedures, my son was forced to park across the street in a private lot. At 10:38 am, a business owner called the Newtown police who promptly had the car towed.
$127 later, I went to the police to find out under what authority they were involved in a private parking violation. I was told by Sergeant Cole that he would find out why the police were involved. I have not heard from him.
Parking stickers at NHS are $65. With less than two months left in the school year I found that rather steep. Multiply the number of students by this $65 charge and wonder: where is this money? Certainly not being used to enlarge the lot.
I now drive my son to school. I turn the corner onto Wasserman Way and routinely let students cross who are coming from the commuter lot across the street. This is indeed âan accident waiting to happen.â
