HARTFORD – Zach Johnson, who just captured a dramatic win over Tiger Woods, Retief Goosen and Rory Sabbatini at the Master’s Championship at Augusta, has announced he will play in the Traveler’s Championship at the TPC at River Highlands in Cromwell.

“Zach’s win at the Masters was phenomenal,” said Traveler’s Championship tournament director Nathan Grube. “It was the kind of win that keeps spectators holding their breath and keeps golf fans talking about it long after the last shot.”

This will be Johnson’s fourth appearance in Connecticut; he has made the cut in all appearances and his best showing was in 2004 when he tied for third place. The Master’s win was only his second PGA Tour win and first major.

Former Master’s champion and former River Highlands champion Phil Mickelson announced recently he would return to Connecticut to participate in the Traveler’s Championship.

In its inaugural season, the Travelers Championship developed several prominent changes to the tournament, which will take place June 18 through 24.The Championship has significantly increased the purse this year to $6 million, the highest purse in the tournament’s history. In addition, the Championship has begun innovative upgrades to the TPC River Highlands facility in Cromwell, which will include a state-of-the-art practice facility and driving range, a revamped corporate row and a renovation to the course skyboxes.

Phase one began in early 2007, with components of the project being completed throughout the next two years.

The Travelers Championship will be televised both domestically and internationally, with the first and second rounds live on The Golf Channel and the third and fourth rounds live on CBS.
