Fresh Air Fund Celebrates

125 Years

Every year through the Fresh Air Fund thousands of volunteer host families in 13 states and Canada provide free summer vacations to children from low-income neighborhoods of New York City.

During National Volunteer Week, April 22 to 28, the Fresh Air Fund would like to thank the volunteer leaders and host families, who deserve recognition for their commitment and dedication to Fresh Air children.

Through the Fresh Air Fund’s Friendly Town program, inner-city children experience the thrill of swimming in lakes and streams, running barefoot through the grass, and making new friends.

“Our heroes are the local families and volunteers who demonstrate their compassion and concern for the well-being of others by their commitment to disadvantaged youngsters from New York City,” said executive director Jenny Morganthau.

Fresh Air hosts are young families, single professionals, empty nesters, and grandparents, all of whom want to share the simple pleasures of country life with an inner-city child. This year, Fresh Air celebrates its 125th anniversary of serving children with a wide variety of special events and volunteer opportunities.

Local volunteer leaders are seeking more families who are willing to host city children this summer. For more information, call 800-367-0003.
