Failure To Appear
Police report that on the morning of April 9, they arrested Rafael Sisounong Ortiz, 23, of Bridgeport on a warrant, charging him with second-degree failure to appear in court.
The charge stems from a January incident in which police charged Ortiz with two motor vehicle violations. Ortiz has pleaded not guilty to both charges. After posting $500 bail on April 9, police released him for an April 18 court appearance.
Bad Check
Newtown police said that Michael Polley, 32, of Kent was at Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury on the morning of April 9 for a court matter, when they served an arrest warrant against him, charging him with issuing a bad check in connection with having allegedly issued an employee a bad check several years ago.
After arrest processing, police released Polley on a written promise to appear in court on April 24.
Evading/DUI
At about 3:30 pm on April 8, police responded to Woods Lane, a private street at Newtown Woods, an age-restricted condominium complex off Mount Pleasant Road in Hawleyville, on a report that a badly damaged 2016 Lexus RX-350 SUV was seen dragging a traffic sign through that neighborhood. The sign listed a 25 MPH speed limit.
Police said that they found the vehicle in question inside a closed garage at the condo complex. After investigating, police charged motorist Anthony Sacowitz, 74, of Newtown, with driving under the influence, evading responsibility, and failure to drive in the proper lane.
After processing, police released Sacowitz on $250 bail for an April 24 court appearance.
Pearl Street
About 4 pm on April 6, a trailer that was parked in the eastbound lane of Pearl Street was struck by eastbound motorist Marina Altimari, 16, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2016 Dodge Ram pickup truck, police said. There were no injuries. Altimari was verbally warning for improper passing.
SUV Vs Tree
Police said that motorist Henry Milligan, 53, of New Milford, who was driving a 2011 Honda CR-V SUV southward on Taunton Hill Road about 5 pm on April 6, was rounding a curve to the left but lost control when the SUV’s right-side tires encountered some sand.
The SUV then drove off the northbound road shoulder and struck a large tree near the driveway for 115 Taunton Hill Road. There were no injuries. Milligan was verbally warned for making a restricted turn.
DUI Arrest
Police report they received a call about 9:07 pm on April 6, reporting an erratic driver traveling near 144 Sugar Street, so they responded to investigate.
Police found the driver in question near the intersection of Sugar Street and South Main Street and stopped him to investigate. Police said they charged motorist Christopher Vaugh, 57, of Fairfield with driving under the influence. After arrest processing, police released Vaugh on $100 bail for an April 23 court appearance.
Warrant
On the morning of April 5, police arrested Krystal DeLeon, 32, of Bridgeport, on a warrant, charging her with second-degree failure to appear in court. Police held DeLeon on $750 bail for an arraignment that day in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.
In court, DeLeon did not plead to that charge or to four other pending motor vehicle charges which stem from an April 15, 2018, incident in Newtown. DeLeon was released on a written promise to appear in court on May 3.
Warrant Case
After learning that police held an arrest warrant for him, Alcilito Almeida Dagraca, 30, of Bridgeport, went to the police station about 9 am on April 5 and was charged with failure to respond to an infraction, police said. Police report that Dagraca had received an infraction several months ago for possession of a small of amount of marijuana but never paid the fine or pleaded not guilty to the offense, so an arrest warrant was issued. After processing, police released Dagraca on $500 bail for an April 18 court appearance.
Subaru Vs Saturn
A two-vehicle accident occurred on northbound South Main Street, about 460 feet south of its intersection with Mile Hill Road about 2:40 pm on April 5.
Motorist David Santangeli, 45, of Watertown, who was driving a 2009 Saturn Aura sedan, stopped for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist Alyssa Santangeli, 18, of Watertown, who was driving a 2015 Subaru Legacy sedan, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Alyssa Santangeli a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Intersection Crash
An accident occurred at the intersection of Wasserman Way and Berkshire Road about 7:30 pm on April 5.
Police report that motorist Eduardo Scichas-Rocha, 50, of Monroe, who was driving a 1998 Ford F-150 pickup westward on Berkshire Road, struck the rear end of a 2016 Toyota Corolla sedan driven by Zeeshan Jabbar, 48, of Southbury.
There were no injuries. Scichas-Rocha received a written warning for following too closely.
Infiniti Vs Infiniti
Police report that at about 4:11 pm on April 4, motorist Christopher Boulier, 20, of Danbury was driving a 2009 Infiniti G-37 auto northward near 71 South Main Street, as motorist Kyle Fralley, 16, of Newtown was driving a 2010 Infiniti G-37 auto southward there.
The southbound vehicle then attempted to make a left turn, resulting in the two autos colliding. There were no injuries. Police issued Fralley an infraction for failure to grant the right of way.
I-84 Accident
State police report that at about 7:53 am on April 2, on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 10, motorist Julianne Artman, 44, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2007 Toyota Highlander SUV, struck the rear end of a 2018 Dodge Charger GT driven by William Lukonis, 70, of Meriden.
There were no injuries. State police verbally warned Artman for following too closely.
