Car Trouble Puts The Brakes On Delivering Smiles

UPDATE: Daniela Delgado notified The Newtown Bee on April 12 that the car troubles may be resolved. "Without your support," she writes, "we never could reach an amazing human being. The owner of Berkshire Motors [in Sandy Hook] contacted my dad and they will pick the car up and will see what is the problem with it."  This was a surprise to her parents, says Daniela "who neither they knew about this. They are so grateful..."

The Newtown Bee received the following request on Wednesday, April 10, from Daniela Delgado, the founder of Daniela’s Little Wish. The young woman has been offering custom birthday cakes, at no cost, to other children with severe illnesses for several years (newtownbee.com/danielas-little-wish-baking-smiles-for-kids-since-2011).

“Good morning:

My name is Daniela Delgado, I am 11 years old. I live in Sandy Hook. I founded an organization called Daniela’s Little Wish when I was 4 years old with the help of my parents and since then I am baking and delivering FREE custom birthday cakes for kids with severe illnesses or severe disabilities all over Connecticut and surrounding states.

I had this idea because, like the kids who I deliver the cakes to, I also have a severe genetic rare bleeding disorder and a connective tissue disorder that affects my joints and blood vessels. I can understand the sickness, the pain, but also I have hope and dreams like them and I love to bring smiles for kids who are having a very hard time in their short lives.

One of my important tools for delivering the cakes is our car, that I also use for my specialist appointments (I am in care of 11 specialists at this time) and they are far from home. That’s why today I am asking for your help and support to continue delivering my cakes to other kids.

Unfortunately, our car is broken and I am in need to find a mechanic or an autoshop that can help us to fix it. The car is parked in our driveway (it doesn’t start). My dad was trying to fix it without any luck. I will have another birthday celebration very soon for a kid with a very severe condition and I am really sad if I will not able to deliver my cake to him.

Daniela’s Little Wish means a lot to me. Not only helps me to cope with my health illnesses but it is what I love the most: Delivering smiles and serve others.

Any good Samaritan who [can] help me to deliver smiles?”
