Newtown High School's girls' tennis team followed up a season-opening 7-0 defeat at Weston, on April 5, with a 7-0 triumph over visiting Masuk of Monroe, on April 9.

At first singles, Marie Ann Tomaj defeated Madeline Lesko 6-0, 6-0. At second singled, Amanda Berry defeated Julia Vincent 6-0, 6-0. Third singles player Megan Cooney topped Chiara Vaccaro 6-0, 6-0. At fourth singles, Jen Lorenz blanked Margaret Kokoda 6-0, 6-0.

At first doubles, Julia Anderson and Amanda Conrod defeated Sabrina Campos and Gillian Ciaccio 6-0, 6-0. At second doubles, Hayley Lambert and Julia Klein beat Alyssa Luise and Molly Bonczek 6-1, 6-0. At third doubles, Peyton Bradely and Julia Dolan defeated Lucy Celentano and Neha Samuel 6-0, 6-0.

The Newtown girls visited New Fairfield on April 10, and won 5-2, playing under a snowfall for part of the match. Tomaj won 6-0, 6-0; Berry won 6-2, 6-3; Cooney lost 6-1, 6-2; and Lorenz lost 6-4, 6-4. In doubles play, the tandem of Anderson/Conrod won 6-4, 6-3; Lambert/Klein won 6-3, 6-4; and Bradley/Celentano won 2-6, 6-4, 13-11.

Newtown's boys' squad, coming off a 5-2 loss to visiting Pomperaug on April 5, edged host Masuk 4-3 on April 9, and defeated visiting New Fairfield 5-2 on April 10.

In the victory over Masuk, Newtown winners were Jackson Dooley at second singles, Nihar Soman at third singles, and Ben Futterman at fourth singles, as well as Luke Sposato and Rohan Mansukhani in the second doubles slot.

Against New Fairfield, top singles player Constantine Vogiatzis pulled out a 6-3, 7-6 win. Jackson Dooley and Soman both won by 6-2, 6-0 scores at second and third singles, and Futterman prevailed 6-3, 6-2 at fourth singles. In doubles play, the No. 2 tandem of Stephen Dooley and Chris Lindsay won 6-1, 6-1.
