Opening Day for the trout fishing season was on Saturday, April 9. Newtown Fish & Game Club member John Sanzo, of Prospect, was the only fisherman on the shore at Taunton Lake a bit after 8 am and indicated it was a slow morning in terms of fisherman turnout; there was also one boat out on the lake within view from the parking lot.Department of Energy & Environmental Protection websiteFor more information on fishing, including regulations, obtaining a license, fishing reports, and trout stocking maps, visit the

Sanzo had only caught his first fish of the season at the time and commented that "it beats doing yard work." Sanzo attributed the low number of fishermen to cool weather as temperatures were below freezing in the early morning hours. With the sun beaming down, and temps climbing, the conditions got more comfortable as the morning unfolded. It stayed a bit chilly throughout the weekend but warmer fishing days, undoubtedly, are ahead.
