Amy Elaine (Mayer) Cable, 98, a longtime resident of Cheshire and Newtown native, died peacefully April 10 at the River Glen Health Care Center in Southbury. She was born in 1918, and was a daughter of the late Ivy L. (Andrews) Mayer and Fredrick G. Mayer

She grew up in Newtown and graduated from Hawley High School (now Hawley Elementary School), in the Class of 1936. For a time she was employed as a clerk in the Probate Office in Newtown.

She married Glover H. Cable in 1952. They moved to Waterbury, where Mrs Cable was employed by Scovill Manufacturing Company, from which she retired. Eventually the couple settled in Cheshire.

A sister, Ruth M. Liska of South Thomaston, Maine; three nieces and three nephews and their wives, including Donna Liska of Newtown who was Mrs Cable's companion and caregiver for many years, survive her. She also leaves behind great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. Her brothers, George N. Mayer and Robert W. Mayer, Sr, both of Newtown, predeceased her.

Mrs Cable enjoyed sewing, gardening, painting, and watching the birds in her backyard. Living nearly a century, she had a lifetime of stories to share.

A graveside burial will take place Wednesday, April 13, at 3 pm, at the Village Cemetery, Newtown.
