Town Players of Newtown has two sets of auditions scheduled within the next few weeks. Auditions for both shows will be at The Little Theatre, 18 Orchard Hill Road.

First up will be auditions for Noel Coward’s Hay Fever, to be produced at The Little Theatre in late June through mid Jul.

Best described as a cross between high farce and a comedy of manners, Hay Fever is set in an English country house in the 1920s, featuring the four eccentric members of the Bliss family and their guests during a house party. The Blisses become embroiled in a riotous dispute, and their bizarre, self-centered behavior eventually drives their guests to flee unnoticed.

Ruth Anne Baumgartner of Fairfield will direct this production, which calls for four men and five women.

Auditions are scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, April 27-28, 7:30 to 9 pm each night.

Actors should read the play in advance and be ready to read sides from the script. No appointment is necessary.

All roles are available. Character descriptions are available by visiting NewtownPlayers.org, and then clicking on the Actors tab.

Rehearsals will begin the week of May 4, with performances Friday and Saturday evenings, June 26-July 18, and two Sunday matinees.

Evening Of One Acts

Town Players will also mount performances of one-act plays this summer, including The Problem by A.R. Gurney, Porch by Jack Heifner, The Proposal by Anton Chekov, and plays written by local playwrights including Elizabeth Young of Newtown and Michael Giuliano of Bethel.

Directors for this evening of fun include Sherry Asch of Brewster N.Y., Timothy Huebenthal of Southbury, Terry Polvay of Sandy Hook, and Terry Sagedy of Newtown.

There are a number of men and women needed, and some actors may be cast in more than one role. No appointment is necessary. All roles are available.

Rehearsal times are flexible. “Hot August Nights: An Evening of One-Acts” will run Friday and Saturday evenings, July 31-August 8, with one Sunday matinee.

Questions about either set of auditions may be directed to info@newtownplayers.org.

Town Players of Newtown will continue their 80th anniversary season with a production of Bus Stop. Opening September 4, the show will be a Newtown Arts Festival event.
