Kenneth William Angell

The Consummate Giants Fan

Kenneth William Angell, 55, of Bethel, died April 2 at home, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was the husband of Mary (Marquis) Angell. He was born in New York City, December 19, 1952, son of Raymond and Barbara (Burns) Angell.

Besides his wife of 31 years, he is survived by his two daughters, Kristen Angell, an employee in The Newtown Bee production department, and Heather Angell, both of Bethel; two sons, Brad Angell and his girlfriend, Michelle, of Danbury, and Todd Angell, an active duty US Navy Corpsman, Pensacola, Fla.; two brothers, Gene Angell of Merrick, L.I., and Robert Angell of Hicksville, L.I.; two sisters, Margaret Turchi of New Port Richey, Fla., and Theresa Newman of Las Vegas, Nev.; as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was a graduate of Lindenhurst (L.I.) High School, Class of 1971. He was a very patriotic man and was very proud of his service in the United States Navy. He was a decorated Vietnam Veteran who served aboard the USS Newport News, a heavy cruiser which duty was gunfire support patrolling the coast of South Viet Nam. Mr Angell worked for 32 years as a rail traffic controller for Metro North Railroad.

He was an avid sports fan and proclaimed himself as the New York Giants #1 fan. Despite his illness, he was able to see his beloved team play and win Super Bowl XLII in Glendale, Ariz. He was a big supporter of youth sports in Bethel, coaching girls’ softball and all levels of Bethel Pop Warner. He served as past president of the Bethel Pop Warner Association and was the “Voice of Bethel” for many years as the high school football game announcer.

Mr Angell was very active in the Bethel High School NJROTC and served as past president of the NJROTC Booster Club. He was extremely proud of the cadets and was honored to be a part of this program that teaches honor, courage, and commitment. He was a member of VFW Post 935, a parishioner of St Mary’s Church, and was an active supporter of the Relay For Life.

He lived life to the fullest and wanted to be remembered for his ability to make people laugh.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the Bethel community for all its support during Mr Angell’s illness. A special thank you to Dr Robert Kloss and his staff at the Praxair Cancer Center for the excellent care given Mr Angell, and to Regional Hospice, especially Joan Thorburn, for the care he received in his final days. “You are truly angels from heaven and we are deeply grateful for all you have done.”

A Mass of Christian Burial, with full military honors, was celebrated at St Mary’s Church in Bethel on April 7. Interment will be private.
