USPS Stamp Photographer In Brookfield
BROOKFIELD â The next meeting of Brookfield Philatelic Society will have as its guest speaker Sally Andersen-Bruce, the photographer who created the snowman images used by the United States Postal Service for its holiday 2002 stamps and postcards.
The meeting will begin at 7:30 pm on Friday, April 11. It will be at Brookfield Community Center, on Pocono Road. All area stamp and cover collectors are welcome to attend, free of charge.
The 2002 USPS holiday series was the result of a national effort. According to an October 4, 2002 press release by the postal service, âthe stamps were designed by Derry Noyes of Washington, D.C., and photographed by Sally Andersen-Bruce, of New Milford, Conn. Tommy Simpson of Washington, Conn., made the Styrofoam snowman wearing a top hat and the combed-wool snowman with the cork pipe.
âJudy Gunn-Irish of Arlington, Wash., made the hand-painted, cut-pine snowman in the red plaid scarf. Delton Products Corp., in Norcross, Ga., made the rosy-cheeked snowman in the blue and white checked scarf.â
Ms Andersen-Bruce has also taken the photos for the USPS Classic American Dolls issue of 1997, as well as the Antique Toys and Neuter & Spay issues of July 2002 and August 2002, respectively.
Circuit books and club stamps will be available during Fridayâs meeting, along with advice on stamp and cover collecting. Call 792-0341 for additional information.
