Library Talk On Innovative Job-Search Strategies

Janice Weinberg, founder of Career Solutions of Westport and author of How to Win the Job You Really Want, will present a talk, “Job-hunting Strategies for a Jobless Recovery,” at the C.H. Booth Library in Newtown on two occasions: the first presentation will be on Monday, April 28, at 7 pm; the second will be held on Tuesday, May 13, at 1 pm. Both presentations are free and open to the public.

More than 1.5 million people in the United States have been unemployed for at least 16 weeks. According to Ms Weinberg, the primary reason most of these people are still unemployed is that they have used job-hunting methods least likely to generate results in weak economy. These methods are networking, contacting recruiters, responding to ads on the Internet and in newspapers, and conducting mail campaigns. She will explain the problems inherent in all four of these traditional approaches. But more important, she will describe a number of “out-of-the-box” search techniques that have consistently generated more favorable results than the widely used methods that have disappointed legions of job-hunters.

In addition, Ms Weinberg has observed that job-hunters commonly make a number of mistakes when developing their resumes and conducting themselves in interviews. She will discuss these topics, and will also advise attendees on how to pinpoint the most significant issues impeding their ability to obtain suitable employment.

Ms Weinberg’s innovative job-hunting techniques have received exposure in numerous regional publications, as well as in The New York Times and the Christian Science Monitor. In reviewing her book, Booklist said, “In the crowded field of job-hunting books, Weinberg’s guide stands out by successfully pulling together a wide range of useful information and offering it clearly and effectively.”
