Frederick     Gillespie

Frederick Charles Gillespie, 75, of Newtown, formerly of Oak Lane in Danbury, died on April 8, peacefully at home. He was the husband of the late Delores E. (Murray) Gillespie.

He was born on March 5, 1928, son of the late Frederick and Margaret (Carr) Gillespie.

Frederick served in the Navy during peacetime as an engineerman and fireman and received the Victory Medal of Honor. He worked as a tool and die-maker for Perkin Elmer of Danbury for 20 years before retiring, and was involved on the Hubble Telescope project during his employment with the company. He volunteered as a court advocate for the battered women shelter in Danbury, and was also a volunteer with the American Red Cross. He held a Connecticut real estate broker license, and was also affiliated with St Rose Church in Newtown.

Frederick is survived by his son, Gerald Gillespie and his wife, Kristina, of Manchester; daughters, Dorine Gillespie of Danbury and Denise Noone of Lewisburg, Penn.; and six grandchildren, Sarah and Amy Gillespie, Tara Tores, Kayla Saunders, and Bryce and Chase Noone.

Calling hours were scheduled for Thursday, April 10, from 6 to 9 pm at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury.

A Funeral Service will be held Friday, April 11, at Cornell Memorial Home at 11 am with burial to follow.
