Birding By Ear

At Audubon

SOUTHBURY — The Audubon Center at Bent of the River is offering a short course, “Birding by Ear,” to be taught by Carolyn Longstreth.

The course will run for four weeks and is suitable for the beginning or intermediate amateur naturalists. The first session is Saturday, April 19, at the Audubon Center from 8 to 10:30 am.

April, May and June are wonderful times for people who love bird song. This field course will teach participants the “tricks of the trade” in identifying these lovely songsters. During the first two weeks students will concentrate on local bird songs like cardinals, titmice and bluebirds. In May, as migrant birds stream in, the course will focus on the songs of warblers, buntings and many more.

Course fee is $85, which includes $35 for Audubon Society membership (those who are already Audubon members will only be charged $50 for the course). Call the Bent of the River center at 264-5098 to reserve a place in the class. The center is at 185 East Flat Hill Road, off Route 172.
