Active Singles Hikes In Paugussett

The non-profit group Active Singles will sponsor singles hikes in Newtown this weekend. The group generally sponsors hikes on the first and third Sunday of each month, March through October, around the state and will be Upper Paugussett State Forest on Sunday, April 13. (There is no hike on the third Thursday of this month because it will be Easter Sunday.)

Hikes begin at 9:30 am, and there is no charge to participate.

Hikers can also take part in an optional brunch following the hike; the cost of meals will be each hiker’s responsibility. Non-hikers are also welcome to join the group for brunch only if they wish.

Bring water and hiking boots, and wear bright clothing. Organizers request that hikers arrive at least 30 minutes before the start of the hike to be welcomed and receive last-minute details. Early arrival also makes it easier on the organizers to coordinate the efforts of the nearly 200 people who generally show up for each Active Singles event.

Paugussett Forest is located along Lake Lillinonah, along the Housatonic River. The full Lillinonah Trail is a circular trail of 6.3 miles in length. Hikes will be offered at four levels on Sunday, so not everyone will be walking the full six-plus miles. All hikes are expected to last about two hours.

To reach the area where Active Singles will be meeting, follow I-84 to Exit 10; turn onto Church Hill Road (turning right if following I-84 East, left if coming off I-84 West); go straight through traffic light above gas stations, under railroad bridge, and watch for right turn onto The Boulevard. Follow The Boulevard straight through its first intersection, then turn left after crossing the bridge, onto Hanover Road. Follow Hanover to end, and watch for Active Singles signs.

Contact Charlie Gergley, 860-489-9611, or visit www.ActiveSingles.org for additional information. Reservations are requested a few days before the hike so that Mr Gergley can tell the restaurant where the group will be having brunch how many people to anticipate.
