GIRLS U12

 

Indoor State Tournament – The Nitros traveled to UConn for the Connecticut Indoor State Championship and had a successful day, placing third overall in the State by winning two of their three games.

Wallingford 2, Nitros 0: Newtown dropped its only game at the outset. Rachel Eastman, Jennifer Greenwood, Sarah Wilson and Heather Young all played well, but it wasn’t enough against a tough Wallingford team.

Nitros 1, Stamford 0: Erica Vacaro scored the lone goal of the game on a breakaway and Kristene Salbu and Meredith Palo stopped the Stamford attack on the defensive front. Sara Peters played well in goal, throwing the shutout.

Nitros 2, Berlin 0: Lindsay Weber and Darcy Fiscella each netted a goal in another shutout, this one led by Sarah Gutbrod’s goalie play and Rose Jackman’s midfield work.

BOYS U12

 

Newtown 4  Berkshire United 0: Joe Rahtelli scored a pair of goals and Michael Kennedy and Ross MacLeod added one apiece as Newtown opened defense of its league title with a win over Berkshire.. The back line of Aron Fay, Justin Durelli, Billy McCann and Matt Boland controlled the play in front of goalkeepers Steven Marks and Brian Conroy, allowing no quality shots on goal. Strong mid-field play came from Mark Cinquegrana, Tyler Bigham, Mike Kennedy, Michael Klein, Chris Nuelle and Matt Norris. The forwards of Jack Quinn, Joe Rahtelli, Eric Macknight and Nick Sando put tremendous pressure on the Berkshire goalie the whole afternoon.
