Boys’ Track Lineup Set To Make Run At Postseason Success
Newtown High School’s boys’ track and field team, Coach Becky Osborne believes, is in good position to have a strong season. The Nighthawks have skill and experience across the board with several multiple-event competitors set to race, jump, and throw their way into the postseason.
“The boys’ track team is very excited about the upcoming season. Being led by captains Caleb Smith, Brock Dukate, Kevin Murray, and Declan Hsieh, the Nighthawks are looking to land at the top of the SWC by the time postseason rolls around,” Osborne said. “We have strong returners in most event groups as well as some new promising faces.”
Throwers to watch are Murray, Smith, Dukate, and Tommy Varga. Standout jumpers include Oliver Guzy, Aydyn Gonzalez, Gabe Appiah, Tyler Weiss, Declan Hsieh, and Dom Simpri. The sprinting corps features Jayden Taylor, Smith, Gonzalez, Appiah, Eli Brady, Dukate, and Hayden Bobowick. Distance runners to keep an eye on are Noah Masotta and Soheib Dissa.
“We are very excited to see how the season shakes out and looking forward to some good dual meets as well as many athletes making the state meets,” Osborne said.
The regular season begins Monday, April 17, when Kolbe Cathedral of Bridgeport, Pomperaug of Southbury, and Stratford come to Blue & Gold Stadium for a 4 pm meet.
