Rose Guarino
Rose Guarino, 87, of Danbury died in Danbury Hospital April 9. She was born in New York City, to Maria (Guiliano) and Joseph Sapienza.
Her family moved to Danbury, where she graduated from St Peter’s School and Danbury High School. She began her married life with her husband, Charles Guarino, in Brooklyn, N.Y. They returned to Danbury to raise their children.
Her three children, Amy Guarino Dent of Sandy Hook, Marie Guarino Moore of New Fairfield, and Alan Guarino of Marlboro, N.Y., survive Mrs Guarino. She was well loved by her sons-in-law, Geoffrey Dent and Glenn Moore; and her daughter-in-law, Kathy Glynn Guarino. Everyone who knew Mrs Guarino loved her, especially her six grandchildren. Her sisters-in-law Joanne Sapienza and Vina Guarino; her brother-in-law Ralph Guarino; six loving nieces and nephews and their families; and her devoted friend and loving caregiver, Sandra Ward, also survive her. Mrs Guarino’s husband; her two brothers, Salvatore and Joseph Sapienza; and her nephew, Steven, predeceased her.
Her immediate and extended family was the focus of her life; her home, the place for everyone to gather.
Mrs Guarino was admired as a gifted coordinator, able to bring people together for worthy causes. She made Danbury a better place to live through her work, community service, and service to her church. She will be remembered for her many years of service as the bookkeeper for the Danbury Public Schools Lunch Program and as a secretary at Broadview Junior High School. As a mom, she was PTA president and Campfire Girl troop leader at Hayestown School. Rose was also a mentor in the DSABC Mentorship Program, a volunteer at Danbury Hospital for many years, as well as other volunteer programs within Danbury. As a member of a local chapter of the AARP, she held several titles including president.
She was a devoted parishioner of St Gregory’s Church and served on committees there.
On Saturday, April 12, the family will receive friends, starting at 9 am, at St Gregory the Great Church, 85 Great Plain Road, Danbury, immediately followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am. Burial will follow at St Peter’s Cemetery, Danbury.
