Osteoarthritis Talk, BP Check On Tap
Like other joints that carry weight, hips may be at risk for âwear and tearâ arthritis (osteoarthritis), the most common form of the disease. Masonicare at Newtown, 139 Toddy Hill Road in Newtown, invites the community to attend a dinner presentation entitled, âPrevention and Management of Hip Arthritis,â Thursday evening, April 23.
The free program will begin with a complimentary dinner at 5:30 pm, prior to the start of the program.
Sanjay K. Gupta, MD, a physician and orthopedic surgeon with Orthopaedic Specialists of Connecticut in Brookfield, will present the informational program. Dr Gupta, a specialist in treating hip and knee arthritis in all age groups, will discuss what individuals can do to help prevent osteoarthritis of the hip. He will also outline nonsurgical and surgical treatments that are available to ease the pain and stiffness if hip arthritis is diagnosed.
Because seating is limited, reservations for the April 23 program are required, and Masonicare recommends calling early. Those wishing to attend should call the Masonicare HelpLine at 888-679-9997.
The Masonicare at Newtown Nursing Department is also sponsoring a free blood pressure screening Tuesday, April 21, from 10 am to noon in the Lockwood Lodge Wellness Center at Masonicare at Newtown.
The screening will be conducted by a licensed nurse who will have free blood pressure information. Remember, you can have high blood pressure and still feel fine.
For further information on the BP screening, contact Patti Russell, RN, director of nursing services, Masonicare at Newtown, at 426-5847.
