How long have you lived in Newtown? We have lived here for 20 years this Fourth of July, in the same house.
What do you like to do in your free time? I love doing house renovations, which is probably why weâve been in the same house for 20 years. I love framing, dry wall, tiling, all of the stuff that goes with renovating. It brings out my creative side and itâs relaxing. We also have a 100-year-old beach house in Rhode Island, so when this house is done, I have another to work on. I also golf, my favorite other pastime. One of my goals this year is to golf more.
Do you have a favorite sports team? I am an avid Yankees fan and I really admired Tino Martinez when he played with the Yankees. I love the game of baseball.
Do you have a favorite travel destination? Not one particular place, really. As a family, we love the outdoors and hiking, and any place we can do that. So Yosemite and the Grand Canyon were wonderful.
What is the best thing about Newtown? As a community, people are in tune with the town. No matter what side of an issue people are on, they care and are vocal about it. That makes Newtown a neat place to live. People care about its future. I used to serve on the legislative council and I learned a lot. People really open up to you.
If you could spend one day with anyone, whom would you choose? Iâd have to say Jesus. Believing that he was both God and man, Iâd be fascinated to know what his feelings were about the human race. It would be interesting to know what his thoughts were about humanity, as a man.
Do you have a personal philosophy? Work hard, try not to worry too much about the future, especially things you canât control, and be honest.
What is the silliest thing you have ever done? Itâs not one single event, but when I was in college at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, I joined the Theta Chi fraternity. Those years were filled with fun-loving pranks, some that were pretty interesting. We once removed the doorframe to one of my frat brotherâs room while he was away for the week, dry-walled it in, plastered it, painted it to match the hallway, and hung a picture there. I think that was the best joke we ever played.
