Job Search Workshop Well Received
Job Search Workshop Well Received
The first in a three-part series of programs aimed at assisting people in job searching, held Thursday, March 19, at the C.H. Booth Library, attracted nearly two dozen people who are underemployed, unemployed, or seeking a career change. Cheryl Schwartz, LCSW, CRC, a Newtown career consultant and clinical social worker, led the presentation that focused on creating a powerful resume.
âThe group was participatory, and members shared their situations, asked questions, and helped each other,â said Ms Schwartz.
The participants were primarily interested in upgrading or creating a new resume, said Ms Schwartz. âThe group learned the importance of leading the resume with strengths and the power of accomplishment statements,â she said.
Kim Weber, director of adult programs at the library, was impressed with the turnout and added, âI think people enjoyed the networking aspect as well, seeing that there are others in the same boat.â
The remaining two sessions will be held Thursday, April 30, and Thursday, May 21, both from 3 to 4:30 pm. The April 30 program will stress job search strategies, including methods of job search and contact development.
On May 21, Ms Schwartz will focus on the interview process. Types of interviews, managing the interview, and the basic dos and donâts of the interview will be covered.
The programs are free and open to the public. They can be taken individually or as a series. Register by calling the library at 426-4533.
