Presented By Flagpole Photographers

Flagpole Photographers Camera Club presented its Annual Competition & Exhibition at C.H. Booth Library last weekend, and judges Mike Thomas and Carl Hebert made a number of selections for the seven categories images had been entered into. An eighth category, People’s Choice, was left to the show’s visitors to decide upon.

The public was invited to visit the Knoepke Meeting Room of the library on Saturday and Sunday, April 4-5, where they were treated to a large selection of images by members of the Newtown-based club.

Mr Thomas has done judging for many camera clubs in Connecticut and Mr Hebert is an associate photographer with Brand Stanton Photography in Danbury. Their choices this year included the presentation of The Dave Kriger Nature Award to Jim Talarino for “Tending the Nest” and Judges’ Best in Show to Rick Tyrseck for “Barnyard Boss.”

Additional awards were as follows: The Bruce Allen Open Print Award to Ed Siciliano for “Nuthatch at Feeder,” and The Jeannette Talarino Best Flower Award to Donna White for “Morning Kiss.”

Mr Talarino’s “Tending the Nest” also received first place in the Best Digitally Enhanced Print division. Also in that division: second place, Micheline Williams, “The Haunted House”; third place, Donna White, “Waiting For Thaw”; and honorable mentions, Jim Talarino, “Tough Guy,” and “Darryl Silverlieb, “Contemplation.”

In the Color Print competition, which had 34 entries, Rick Tyrseck’s “Barnyard Boss” received the blue ribbon. In the same division: second place, Micheline Williams, “Shyness Intertwine”; third place, Bob Berthier, “Gathering Storm”; and honorable mentions, Don Brooks for “Bluebirds” and Barry Connolly for “The Secret World of Bees.”

The Black & White division had 20 entries, from which the judges selected “Robert” by Don Brooks as their top pick. Second place went to Rick Tyrseck for “A Thanksgiving Recipe Handed Down,” third place was Donna White’s “Morning Kiss,” and honorable mentions went to Bob Berthier for “American Bald Eagle” and Micheline Williams for “My Heart is Bleeding.”

The People’s Choice Award was a shared honor this year, with the award going to Donna White and Jim Talarino (“Morning Kiss” and “Tending the Nest,” respectively).
