Animal Control Supervision

Should Be Apolitical

To the Editor:

It was a blow to the Spay and Neuter Association of Newtown (SNAN) when we read in The Bee that Carolee Mason had been terminated as the animal control officer. Carolee is a wonderful advocate for all the animals in Newtown. She is a wonderful, caring and concerned person. She loved her job and did it as well as or better than any other animal control officer that Newtown ever had. We hope and pray that these issues can be resolved and she will be returned to her job where she belongs.

There is also the issue of what department of town government the animal control office falls under. We at SNAN believe that animal control should be removed from the political arena of the selectman’s office, where it was transferred during the last administration, and returned to the supervision of the police department, where it was run successfully for many years.

Sincerely,

Marion Thompson

President of SNAN
