*A reminder this week that Tony Summo and Lou Bellofatto, who 30 years ago were part of the band Steeplechase, continue to play occasionally under their new name, OLD SCHOOL. The guys will be at Proud Mary’s, the bar and lounge at The Inn at Newtown, 19 Main Street, this weekend and next.

The two musicians — with Tony on guitar and Lou on keyboards, accompanied by custom recorded tracks to give them a full band sound — will be in the house on Friday, April 3, and Saturday, April 11. Both shows will get going around 9 pm. Sets will cover music from the 50s through the 80s.

*J.D. HILL will return to Mocha Coffeehouse in Sandy Hook for another performance of his classic and indie rock on guitar, with vocals. That’ll be the headlining feature for Saturday night.

Friday’s highlight will be an open forum – “not an open mic,” as the coffee house’s weekly email reminds us, “but an open invitation to all musicians and the people who love them.”

Both events will be running 8 to 10 pm.

*Over at The Blue Z on South Main Street, JIM ALLYN and RICK BRODSKY will return on Saturday night for their next show. Talked to Jim just a few days ago and he was getting very excited for the show. He and Rick had some good friends show up the last time they played at the Z, and he was hoping that the energy would be at least that good if not better this weekend.

*Rock bands STYX, REO SPEEDWAGON and .38 SPECIAL will bring the Can’t Stop Rockin’ Tour to Mohegan Sun Arena on July 1. All tickets for this show will be $45 and will be going on sale Saturday morning at 10 am.

Tickets will be sold through TicketMaster tomorrow, and will also be available at the casino’s box office beginning Sunday at 10 am.

*CROSBY, STILLS & NASH will be among the musical artists who were confirmed this week as performers for the 14th Annual Gathering of the Vibes Festival, which returns for its fifth offering at Seaside park in Bridgeport this summer.

The July 23-26 event will also celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Woodstock Music & Arts Festival, and this year’s lineup reflects that in part with performances planned by fellow Woodstock participants BOB WEIR (The Grateful Dead), LEVON HELM (former drummer and vocalist for The Band) and activist WAVY GRAVY, who will serve as master of ceremonies.

The Vibes 2009 line-up already includes BUDDY GUY, GEORGE CLINTON, STATE RADIO, GUSTER, MOE., THE HARLEM GOSPEL CHOICE. Additional artists will be confirmed in upcoming weeks and months.

Advance weekend camping passes are already available for $185, with VIP passes set at $420. Single-day tickets for Friday, Saturday and Sunday are $60 per day; kids age 12 and under are free all weekend, and for Family Day on Sunday it’ll be ages 15 and under who are admitted free of charge.

For tickets and updated schedule information visit GatheringOfTheVibes.com or call Festival Headquarters at 203-928-3030.

*This weekend tickets for RASCALL FLATTS, who will bring their American Living Unstoppable Tour 2009 to The Meadows Music Theater in Hartford on Friday, June 26, will go on sale. Tickets are $79.25 for reserved seating and $34.75 for the lawn. Darius Rucker (who played the first ever concert at this venue with HOOTIE & THE BLOWFISH) will have opening honors.

Until next week I’ll be seeing you... on the road.

Questions and comments should be sent to Shannon Hicks c/o The Newtown Bee, 5 Church Hill Road, Newtown CT 06470, or shannon@thebee.com, or call the office at 426-3141. Shows listed at clubs are for ages 21 and over unless specified.
