A Need for New Talent And Ideas

To the Editor:

If you are feeling a need to make positive changes in our town and you want Newtown to “be all it can and should be,” then please consider joining the Independent Party.

Our local organization, also known as the Independent Party of Newtown, is a diverse group of residents. It is our declaration to work with the town citizens to create and improve quality of life for our community. We share President Abraham Lincoln’s belief that our town should be “of the people, for the people and by the people.” Our principles include accountability, checks and balances and transparency of government.

Organized in the summer of 2007, we elected four town officials that November. They are: David Nanavaty to the Board of Education; Bruce Walzack to the Police Commission; and Po Murray and Gary Davis to the Legislative Council.

We are a young party with much enthusiasm and are looking for people who want to participate in giving the government back to our residents. This year, we would like to present the public a slate of candidates that share our principles.

If you are interested in improving government in the areas of: strategic long-term planning, economic development, education, the arts, law enforcement, parks and recreation, property tax stability, senior programs or other, please let us know.

Registered Democrats, Republicans and members of other parties are welcome to explore running for office under our banner. You are not required to change your national party affiliation to support the Independent Party and run for elected office with the IPN endorsement. Being “Independent,” we offer constituents the opportunity to work locally for Newtown, while fulfilling any state or federal allegiance that one feels compelled to do.

You can be an Independent Party supporter without running for office. Each person may contribute as much as they can with whatever talents they offer.

We encourage anyone who wants to influence change for the better to contact Bruce Walzack at bwalczack@snet.net or call 270-9520. If you would like to be considered to run as a candidate please contact me at ndrandle@charter.net or by mail at my home address.
