Salvation Army NY Staff Band Will Visit Danbury

DANBURY — A visit to the Danbury area by one of America’s foremost brass bands, The Salvation Army New York Staff Band, is scheduled for Saturday, April 21.

The band, led by Bandmaster Ronald Waiksnoris, will be featured at Rogers Park Middle School for a 7:30 pm concert. Tickets are $8 per individual or $15 for a family. The program will be varied, from classical transcriptions and traditional marches to contemporary gospel arrangements. Band members will also form a chorus and present several vocal selections.

Organized in 1887, the New York Staff Band is made up of men and women who volunteer their services as band members in addition to regular responsibilities as Salvation Army officers or employees. Though they are volunteers, many members are professionally trained musicians and all have reached a high level of proficiency. World renowned tuba soloist Harvey Phillips ranks the group among “the most important performing organization in the United States.”

“The Salvation Army is delighted to be able to share music of this magnitude with the entire community. This is a band that stands for excellence in Christian music,” said Vincent Nolan, the staff band’s advisory board chairman.

The band will lead a worship service at United Methodist Church of Danbury, 5 Clapboard Ridge Road in Danbury, on Sunday, April 22, at 10:15 am.
