National Dance Week 2001 Celebration
MONROE â Local dance schools are getting ready to celebrate the importance of the performing arts while promoting health and well being for dancers.
On Sunday, April 29, from noon to 4 pm, Monroeâs National Dance Week 2001 celebration will take place at Jockey Hollow School on Fan Hill Road. Monroe Dance Academy is hosting the event. The master of ceremonies is radio personality Randee Kay of Star 99.9 FM.
The dayâs activities will include performances by dance schools from New Haven, Stratford, Monroe and Newtown and New York City professionals, ethnic-inspired dance sessions in which everyone can participate, and formal presentations on various dance-related topics.
Information on college dance programs, summer programs, physical therapy, nutrition, massage and acupuncture will also be available.
The goals of National Dance Week 2001 include educating dancers and the public in the importance of the performing arts, promoting health and well-being for dancers, and providing performing opportunities. All proceeds from the event will benefit Dancers Responding to AIDS (DRA), a fundraising program of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BC/EFA).
