Independent Living Day Returns
Independent Living Day Returns
The second annual Newtown Youth Servicesâ âIndependent Living Dayâ returns again this year. On Saturday, May 5, teams of adults and young people will work throughout Newtown on various projects that help senior citizens continue to live independently. The hours are 9 am to 3 pm, with two shift times available. Some of the projects are raking, planting seasonal flowers, rearranging cabinets, simple fix-it jobs, running errands, or walking and washing dogs. Some seniors might be interested in having a âfriendly visitorâ to sit and talk with on a regular basis or just to be read to.
Members of the High School and Middle School Youth Advisory Boards, sponsored by NYS, are gearing up for this cooperative event. Additionally, other youth groups such as the Boy/Girl Scouts or entire families are preparing to lend a hand.
Surveys have already been distributed to senior citizens. If you did not receive one, and would like to participate, please call the Youth Servicesâ office at 270-4335.
If you would like to volunteer your services for this intergenerational project, please contact NYS and let us know what you would like to do â we have a list of jobs from which to choose. If you have a special talent or ability, please be sure to mention it.
For question or further information, please call NYS at 270-4335.
