The theater at Edmond Town Hall will be screening two movies this weekend, and the public will have the opportunity to see both free of charge thanks to Ingersoll Auto of Danbury.

All screenings on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of Paddington and St Vincent will be offered for free. Regular admission for movies at the town hall, at 45 Main Street, is $2.

Released in London, where it was filmed, in November, Paddington is based on Michael Bond’s book Paddington Bear. The film was released in the United States in January. Among its stars are Hugh Bonneville and Sally Hawkins, who star as Mr and Mrs Brown; Julie Walters as Mrs Bird; and Nicole Kidman as Millicent, the taxidermist who tries to capture Paddington for her collection.

The film also features the vocal talents of Ben Wishaw (as Paddington), Imelda Staundon (as Paddington’s Aunt Lucy) and Michael Gambon (Uncle Pastuzo). It combines live action, computer generated imagery and animatronics.

It has a running time of 95 minutes, and is rated PG.

Screenings at Edmond Town Hall are scheduled for April 10-16, with daily evening shows at 7 pm. Matinees are planned for Saturday and Monday through Thursday.

The second film being offered April 10-16, St Vincent tells the story of “a young boy whose parents have just divorced [who] finds an unlikely friend and mentor in the misanthropic, bawdy, hedonistic war veteran who lives next door” (IMDb.com). Jaeden Lieberher is the young boy, and Bill Murray is the neighbor in the film which also stars Melissa McCarthy and Naomi Watts in lead roles. Chris O’Dowd and Terrence Howard are also featured in the film.

The film was nominated for the Best Motion Picture-Comedy or Musical Golden Globe. In addition, Murray was nominated for a Golden Globe (Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture-Comedy or Musical) and Watts was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award (Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role) for their work in this film. Lieberher received The Sierra Award: Youth in Film honor from the Las Vegas Film Critics Society Awards for his acting.

St Vincent is rated PG-13. In an unusual move, The Edmond Town Hall Board of Managers is noting the film “contains mature subject matter and is recommended for older teens and adults only” in its print ads this week.

The film, released in October, has a running time of 102 minutes.

Screenings are planned for 9 pm nightly, with matinees Saturday and Monday through Thursday at 4 pm.

Ingersoll Auto, owned by Todd Ingersoll of Newtown, introduced the free movie weekends in January 2013. At the time Mr Ingersoll said he was trying to “come up with a creative way that would provide some family time, in our town, that would appeal to everybody.” Initially presented at Free Saturday Movie Nights on the second Saturday of a month, the offerings have often been extended to Saturday–Sunday offering or, more recently, full weekend offerings. The majority of the movies screened during the Ingersoll-sponsored events have been family-friendly offerings.

Last year Mr Ingersoll helped the board of directors celebrate the completed installation of a new digital projector at the historic Main Street building by sponsoring a weekend’s worth of screenings of Gravity and Frozen Sing-A-Long. Among the other films sponsored by the auto dealership have been The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Maleficent, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, Into The Woods, Annie, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Guardians of The Galaxy, The Good Lie, Noah, and The Book Thief.

The first film offered through the gesture of kindness, in January 2013, was The Perks of Being A Wallflower

Ingersoll Auto of Danbury will sponsor free screenings April 10-12 at Edmond Town Hall of Paddington and St Vincent.
