Newtown High School teacher Kerry Baldwin has been nominated for the fifth time to be included in Who’s Who Among American Teachers.

Retired Newtown High School teacher James Casagrande has been nominated for the 2004 National Golf Coach of the Year Award. If chosen, he will attend the National High School Athletic Coaches’ Convention in Las Vegas, Nev.

Newtown High School teacher Jan Filmer has been asked to speak at the BISBI conference on how to teach high school math to the blind.

Newtown High School social studies instructor Jan Lee Brooks and her colleagues presented a workshop, “Perspectives on Race,” at the Northeast Regional Conference on Social Studies on March 26, based on a series of joint workshops, “Conversations on Race,” between Newtown High School students and students from Bassick High School in Bridgeport. The next “Conversations on Race” forum will take place at Newtown High School on April 15.

Newtown High School teacher Marty Swanhall presented a workshop, “The Flat Earth Or How We Know What We Know,” to the state Science Teachers Association’s annual conference on March 13.

Newtown High School teacher Becky Hall was recently accepted into Wesleyan University’s PhD program for fall 2004.

Newtown Middle School teachers Jeanne Bugay, Phil Cruz, and Susan Lang attend a conference, “Connecting Boys to Books: Practical Activities and Strategies that Engage Boys in Literacy,” on March 11.

Newtown Middle School teachers Sarito Chandler and Michelle Tomassi will be offering a piñata-making workshop for seventh graders after school throughout April.

Newtown Middle School teacher Sheila Blachman recently passed the Connecticut Administrator’s Test (CAT) and is now certified as an administrator in Connecticut.
