New Flag Football League

When the National Football League players head to training camp this summer, local players will be heading to the back fields at Newtown High School to participate in the Newtown Flag Football League (NFFL), sponsored by the Newtown Parks and Recreation Department.

At least, that is the hope of the organizers – Joe Brown, Charlie Coates, Mark Fracker, Tim Frawley and Tony Willie. The group is looking for form an eight-team league with 10 to 12 players per team, which will compete on Tuesdays and Saturdays from July 6 through August 14. The league – which is non-contact – will be open to players ages 16 and up.

The group is presently looking for local businesses to help fund and support each team and the league as a whole. A donation (any amount would be appreciated, but they are looking for $400 per team) would help provide uniforms and to pay trained referees.

As for the games, each will be comprised of a pair of 20-minute halves with up to four games on each day. Each team will have a 10-game regular season schedule with playoffs (for those who qualify) to follow.

Anyone wishing additional information – to either play or to sponsor – can call Joe Brown at 313-9353 or Charlie Coates at 770-3740.
