Family Fun At Fairfield Historical Society
FAIRFIELD â On Sunday, April 18, Fairfield Historical Society has planned an afternoon of family fun with a three-part program dealing with a topic of interest to everyone: money. The program is being presented in conjunction with the societyâs current exhibition, âFor What Itâs Worth! Money, Barter and Bankes in Early Fairfield,â which explores the history of money from colonial times through the Civil War.
âAll About Early American Coins,â a two-hour workshop for children ages 10 and up and their parents, begins at 11 am. Participants will tour the exhibit and then examine original coins from the colonial period to the present day and learn how they fit into the nationâs history. Cost is $15.
At âMoney Mania,â from 1 to 3 pm, children ages 6 and up and their parents can make their own currency, learn coin tricks, make money origami, build a tin can bank, and explore the exhibit on a money adventure. Cost for this program is $7.
The final portion of the day, âCoin and Currency Appraisals,â will be conducted from 3 to 4 pm by Holmes Historical Coin Company. Visitors can bring their favorite coins to find out what they are worth. This segment is free to the public.
Fairfield Historical Societyâs museum is at 636 Old Post Road, across from Fairfield Town Hall. For reservations and information call 203-259-1598.
