Anita Coy Luf

Anita Coy Luf, 93, of Head of Meadow Road, died April 6 surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Frederick N. Luf.

Anita was born in Derby, March 25, 1911, daughter of the late Wilbur H. and Abbie (Bennet) Coy. She moved to Newtown as a young child and grew up on Main Street. She was one of 12 members of the graduating class at Newtown’s Hawley High School in 1930.

She was a switchboard operator at SNET’s Newtown office until her marriage at which time she became a full-time homemaker. She was a member of the Newtown Congregational Church, the American Bell Association, and a past member of the Hawleyville Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

Anita was affectionately known as “Dea” to family and friends, and she took great joy in her family. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her including her cat, Oliver.

Mrs Luf is survived by two sons, Wilbur C. “Skip” Luf and his wife Carol of Newtown, and Charles F. Luf and his wife Gail, also of Newtown. She is also survived by a granddaughter, Amanda Berkley and her husband Shannon of Newtown; three grandsons, Joshua Luf of Newtown, Keith Luf and his wife Marie of Beverly, Mass., and Douglas Luf and his wife Kathleen of Pittsfield, Mass.; three great-grandchildren, Max, Greta, and Linus; a sister-in-law Mildred L. Smith of Wilton, and two nieces. She was predeceased by a grandson, Mathew N. Luf.

Funeral services will be held at noon, Tuesday, April 13, in the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, with Rev Steven P. Gordon officiating.

Interment will be in Newtown Village Cemetery. Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home on Monday, April 12, from 7 to 9 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Mathew N. Luf Scholarship Fund, c/o the Newtown Scholarship Association, PO Box 302, Newtown CT 06470.
