A Spectacular Place To Play
A Spectacular Place To Play
To the Editor:
The Newtown High School Baseball program would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the people at Newtown Parks and Recreation for their hard work in making our new baseball field a spectacular place to play and practice. Under the direction of Carl Samuelson, the department worked long hours during the past weeks to ensure our program finally has a field of its own. These people include Deborah Denzel, Donna Benson, Chago Soto, John Moore, Jack Honan, Linda Bradley-Gillette, Scott Graves, James Tani, Shawn Taylor, John Benvenuti, and Amandio Dos Santo.
Since construction began on the project in 2002 our baseball team practiced all over town on fields at the Middle School, open fields on Oakview Road, and on softball fields at Treadwell Park. In 2003 we played 17 games out of our 20 game schedule on the road and used Newtown Middle Schoolâs field as our home site three times. It wasnât easy, but the student athletes persevered and now reap the benefits from Mr Samuelsonâs fine work.
I would hope the readers of The Bee and the residents of the Town of Newtown would take some time out of their schedule this spring and visit our new athletic complex located behind Newtown High School. It is truly a sight to behold. Thanks again from all of us here playing baseball at Newtown High School!
Sincerely,
Pat McCarthy
