In the final week of the Newtown Health & Fitness Women's Basketball League regular season, Newtown Amoco and Pizza Palace finished tied for third place and Newtown Color Center and Kerler Burton tied for fourth place.
In the final week of the Newtown Health & Fitness Womenâs Basketball League regular season, Newtown Amoco and Pizza Palace finished tied for third place and Newtown Color Center and Kerler Burton tied for fourth place.
Karen Powell retained her claim as the leagueâs top scorer, adding 22 points to her season total of 347 points. Aided by teammates Mary Dent with 16 points and Jackie Peterson with 14, Pizza Palace defeated Newton Color Center 68-51. Caroline Ward helped out with 12 points and five rebounds and Beth Gattey tossed in four points. Sharon McCarthy scored her season high with 23 points for Newtown Color Center. Joan Plavnicky added 16 and Lisa Pollard tossed in 12.
Walsh Logging stayed on top with its 64-48 win over Newtown Amoco. Tracy Palella and Carol Huizinga controlled the scoring with 22 and 21 points respectively. Lisa Goeddel added 16 and Megan LaCava added five for Walsh. Justine Kohlsaat had 13 points for Amoco with Suzanne Marsan adding 12, Carolyn Schreiber eight, Denise Brough seven, Ellen Goyda six, and Leslie Trudell two.
In an unexpectedly close game, second-place Charter Communications had to battle hard in its 42-39 victory over last place Kerler/Burton. Colleen Gregory led Charter with 23 points. Holly Ferguson added seven, Laura Denis six, Laura Willing four and Stephanie Trolle two. Michelle Putnickey controlled the scoring for Kerler Burton with 19. Nancy Bowen tossed in 10, Natalia Kerler and Sherri Baggett added four each, and Amy Mangold had two points.
Play-offs began April 10 and the second round will follow on April 17, with games at 7 and 8 pm.
The league championship game will tip off April 24 at 7 pm.
