Flagpole Photographers Club Announces April Programs, Including Hybrid Presentation
The Flagpole Photographers Camera Club April events will open with the online presentation “Chasing Light” by Sigma tech rep Mark Farb.
Guests will learn how to choose the right lens for the task at hand, a lesson on going past the kit lens and picking the next lens to make more impactful photos. The program is planned for Thursday, April 14, at 7:15 pm.
The competition theme for the month is “Shadows or Silhouettes,” and the monthly challenge theme is “Flower.” This will take place online and in person on Thursday, April 28, at 7 pm. The in-person event will be at Newtown Senior Center, 8 Simpson Street. Masks will be optional, seating will be spaced apart.
Members have the option of bringing a print for discussion during the social time from 7 to 7:30 prior to the start of the meeting.
Members compete in a different assigned subject each month, as well as in a monthly challenge, open color, and open monochrome categories. The monthly challenge is decided at the competition meetings for the following month.
While the competition is only open to members, the public is invited to listen to critiques and learn about photography.
The club also would like to invite everyone to Mentor Night, held online the first Thursday of the month. Experienced club members help others make their photos better. Mentor Night is about asking questions, sharing knowledge, and the fun of learning more about all things related to photography — just show up with questions and photos.
There is no charge to attend Flagpole Photographers Camera Club competitions. Flagpole Photographers is a local nonprofit group that enables members to share their images and expertise, to learn and grow in their photography, and to enjoy the camaraderie of fellow photographers who come from diverse backgrounds, with photographic skills ranging from beginning novices to professionals.
New members are always welcome to join the club and may enter their work in monthly club competitions, participate in workshops, take field trips, get involved in community programs, and take part in annual exhibits.
