YRTA Conference Returning April 14
DANBURY â Interfaith AIDS Ministry (IAM) will sponsor the 16th Annual Youth Reacting To AIDS (YRTA) Youth Empowerment Conference on Thursday April 14. The event will run from 8:45 am to 1 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Danbury, 24 Clapboard Ridge Road. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
The conference is a statewide youth to youth event. YRTA organizes this one day event with the purpose of sharing information about HIV/AIDS preventive programs in the greater Danbury area. For the last 16 years, Interfaith AIDS Ministry of Greater Danbury, Inc has been the sponsoring agency for this statewide conference. Youth Peer AIDS Educators from across Connecticut attend this youth driven-organized conference to interact with others in their same positions. It is an opportunity for them to discuss their successes and pitfalls of their intervention programs, as well as attend presentations and speeches by those in the HIV/AIDS field.
The conference has provided a fertile ground for ideas, networking, and information exchange among all youth in Connecticut. YRTA is a learning tool that fosters leadership, public speaking, communication, networking, community service and team working skills. Attendees are primarily aged 13â24.
Registration is $5 for ages 18 or younger, and $8 for adults. Since the conference has a limited number of seats, advance registration is strongly suggested.
For more information and registration, contact Interfaith AIDS Ministry of Greater Danbury, Inc, 39 Rose Street in Danbury, at 203-748-4077, or YRTA Coordinator Suzanne Davenport at 203-417 4694 or iam_yrta@yahoo.com.
