Genealogical Resources At The Connecticut Historical Society
On Wednesday, April 13, The Genealogy Club of Newtown will host a free presentation about the many genealogical resources available at the Connecticut Historical Society (CHS) in Hartford. The program will start at 7 pm in the community room of C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street.
Two of the societyâs genealogy experts will explain the wide variety of useful reference materials housed in the societyâs research center, including city and town directories, Census indices, cemetery inscriptions, family histories, and much more.
Diana Ross McCain, who heads the CHS Research Center, will be one of the eveningâs two speakers. Ms McCain has been writing about Connecticutâs past for more than 25 years. Among the books she has written are It Happened in Connecticut, Connecticut Coast: An Illustrated History, Mysteries and Legends of New England and a biography of state heroine Prudence Crandall.
Carol R. Whitmer, a professional genealogist and family researcher, will also share the podium. Ms Whitmer is a trustee of CHS, assistant treasurer of the Connecticut Society of Genealogists, and a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists.
The Genealogy Club of Newtown meets on the second Wednesday of every month, September through June, at C.H. Booth Library. New members and visitors are always welcome. For more information, call Harlan Jessup at 203-270-7887.
