Car Vs Pole

Police said that motorist Richard Rau, 82, of 17 Longview Heights Road was driving a 2003 Subaru Legacy station wagon northward on Longview Heights Road about 8:30 am March 31, when the vehicle speeded up instead of slowing down at the intersection of Longview Heights Road and Route 302.

The Subaru then struck a utility pole and continued traveling, coming to rest on eastbound Route 302 at its intersection with Head O’ Meadow Road, police said.

Rau was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of unknown injuries, police said. The incident is under investigation, according to police.

Graffiti Incident

Police report a graffiti incident at the masonry bridge walls of the Housatonic Railroad overpass on Currituck Road, near its intersection with Tunnel Road about 10 pm on April 3.

Police said they responded to the Tunnel Road area after receiving a report that there was a suspicious vehicle parked in the area.

Several cans of aerosol spray paint were spotted inside the unoccupied vehicle there, police said.

The town’s police dog then tracked some suspects in the case who were heading toward the nearby Interstate 84, police said.  The dog then tracked the people back toward the railroad bridge, with police finding  a male youth who had some paint on his hands and clothing.

Police said their investigation determined that the boy had sprayed graffiti on the masonry railroad bridge  wall.

Also, another youth was involved in the incident, police said. That youth had served as a lookout to allow the other youth to do the illegal spray painting, police said.

But the lookout person fled the scene, police report.

The boy who was apprehended was under age 18, so police did not reveal his identity.

Police arrested that boy on charges of criminal mischief, interfering with police, trespassing on railroad property, and criminal conspiracy. That boy was released on a written promise to appear in Danbury Youthful Offender Court on April 18.

The case remains under investigation.
