Womanâs Club Members Win Awards
Members of the Newtown Womanâs Club, GFWC participated in the Arts and Crafts Contest sponsored by the General Federation of Womenâs Clubs of Connecticut District 1 at the Spinning Wheel Restaurant in Redding Ridge.
District 1 is comprised of clubs from Bethel, Danbury/New Fairfield, New Canaan, Norwalk, Ridgefield, and Stamford as well as Newtown.
Newtown members won 19 first place awards including a Judges Special Recognition Certificate presented to Pat Denlinger for her color photograph of âThe Gatesâ taken in Central Park, New York.
Other blue ribbon winners included Mary Elander, paper cutting; Flo Caron, theorem painting; Marianne Scanlon, flowers; Marilyn Alexander and Peg Forbell, crochet; Peg Forbell, Marilyn Alexander, and Marion Thompson, knitting; Ruth Campbell and Peg Forbell, needlework; Peg Forbell and Betty Doty, sewing; Marion Thompson and Marilyn Alexander, stationery; Evelyn Spera, oil painting; and Coke Cramer and Pat Denlinger, photography.
All first-place winners are entitled to enter their work in the General Federation of Womenâs Clubs of Connecticut 108th Convention to be held on May 7 in East Hartford. The Connecticut Federation is made up of 54 clubs with more than 3,300 members.
In addition to the Arts and Crafts awards, the club received district awards for Support for Performing Arts, Resource Conservation, and Literacy.
